My friend Rax invited me to help them make Cat Girl Goth Rave, a short visual novel about throwing a party no one can come to in the middle of a pandemic. The game itself was only distributed to a small group of family and friends (it’s pretty heavy stuff!) but we decided to make the soundtrack more widely available.

The music was sort of a hand-off collaboration between myself and ratttznest, who had already made four awesome tracks before I started working on the project. Since I only had a few days to work on it, I chopped, remixed, rearranged, and covered those songs to create a unique short theme for each character in the game, each of which provides a different take on the same set of musical motifs.

I also created some totally new, guitar-centric tracks to highlight some special moments in the game: Animals Are Done With This Shit, Animals Are Doing Their Best, and the five-minute ending credits anthem CAT GIRL GOTH RAVE! to highlight some special moments in the game.

(I also made the album art!)

I had so much fun working on this — I’d love to do more game music! Maybe I’ll try and release some of the tracks from my unfinished game projects next…

You can listen to it for free, but if you decide to pay for the album, I’ll donate the proceeds to a trans charity.
